Frequently asked questions

Answers about gum health, treatment, and what to expect.

What is a periodontist?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Dr. Hsieh is board-certified in both periodontics and orthodontics.

What are the warning signs of gum disease?
Bleeding gums, swelling or redness, persistent bad breath, receding gums, and loose teeth. If you notice any of these, schedule an exam — early treatment is simpler and more effective.

Does periodontal treatment hurt?
We use local anesthesia so treatment areas are numb, and most patients report little discomfort afterward. We'll explain exactly what to expect at your visit.

How often will I need maintenance visits?
After active therapy, most patients return every 3–4 months for periodontal maintenance. Dr. Hsieh will recommend a schedule based on your condition.

Will my insurance cover periodontal treatment?
We bill your insurance directly and help you maximize your benefits. Our team can estimate your coverage before treatment begins.

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Hsieh?
No — self-referrals are welcome. Call (888) 599-4915 or book online.
